Biathlon Information
Yesterday during practice (Monday 1/23) many of the athletes had the opportunity to shoot in the rifle range at Dimond High. Why did I bring the team to shoot at the rifle range? Because Biathlon is a olympic sport that many people don't realize exists. Basically, individuals ski with a rifle on their back and shoot 5 targets every lap in different positions (usually standing or prone).

There is a biathlon association in town that opens the range at Kincaid every week (or more than once a week) and gives people opporunities to shoot. There are also races that occur every so often as well.

If you are interested in biathlon, here are some links with information about what you need to do to get involved with the sport:

Friday Time Trial Results
The time trial on Friday when great, even if West couldn't make it because of the ole' "My bus didn't show up" excuse..... They were very regretful that they couldn't make it and it was no fault of their own. We hope to set something similar up with them either this year or the next. For those that did make it, the course was in perfect condition and temperatures were pretty moderate (compared to what they have been). The course went from the Stadium, up Elliots Climb, down Easy Street, up Burky's Bend, down Rollercoaster and around the stadium to the finish. About 5.15 Km total. Congrats to our winners, Cameron Brailey and Sarah Falconer.

Starting Next Week (Tuesday 1-17)
Starting Tuesday 1/17 I will be opening the weight room for morning circuits. This is one more way to help your strength before we get to the end of the season. Days the weight room will be open:

Tuesday 6a-7a
Thursday 6a-7a

I know it's pretty early, however, those of you wanting to get a little more strength work in before the end of the season rolls around, this is your opportunity.

Wednesday's practice 1/4/12
Because the race this week is skate and because we are not going to have an opportunity to skate again before Friday, Wednesday's practice is skate skiing. Be sure to bring your skate skis to practice.

THIS WEEK'S PRACTICES (1/3-1/6)
Because of the temps be sure to bring indoor gear with you as well. The schedule says we are skating tomorrow. Please bring CLASSIC gear for tomorrow.

Thanks.

A BIG thank you and email addresses
First of all, for those of you not on my email list, the coaches would like to extend a big thank you for your help at the Lynx Loppet. There were many compliments regarding the race. Whether you were helping with timing, concessions, clean-up, bib washing, or out taking photos of the athletes we appreciate the help. The Lynx Loppet would not have ran very smooth without everyone's help.

Secondly, I have a list of email addresses for the parents who were at the beginning season meeting. If you were not a part of that list but would like to receive updates of upcoming information via email, please send me an email (normandin_nate@asdk12.org).

Lastly, I've updated the practice schedule for the rest of December. It is short notice, however if you or your student-athlete would like to take part of a couple races occuring this weekend, there are Besh Cup races at Kincaid Chalet on Saturday Dec. 17 (Sprint races) and Chugiak on Sunday Dec. 18 (Distance races).

If you would like to compete in these races, the deadline to sign up is Wednesday Dec. 14th. You may sign up via the website: http://www.crosscountryalaska.org. These races bring some of the best skiers in the state (kids and adult) to Anchorage.

Team Photographs
Because we are coaching, we have a difficult time taking photographs during events. If you have warm fingers and would like to take pictures of the athletes during races, we would love to have you help. The team has a website to upload the pictures you take:
